An effortless collaboration between client, architect and designer, this project created a beautiful home within a small envelope. The core project driver: sustainability in both a 'green' and lifestyle sense. Large volume water storage tanks hidden under outdoor decking, grey water reticulation, energy efficient tap ware, sanitary fixtures and appliances, LED and compact fluorescent lighting, reconstituted and recycled timbers, natural oil finishes and low VOC paints, were all used to the highest degree of effectiveness. The small footprint is deceptive, as the spatial volume opens to an outdoor area, extending the internal living space beyond its glass facade. The master bedroom floats like a tree house within glass walls, yet is deceptively private, as are the other sleeping zones located within the existing heritage cottage. Beautiful and subtle, this extension is virtually undetectable from the street front, but unfolds as soon as you step inside. Building designed by Troppo Architects.
